Summary of Session

Anxiety disorders such as Agoraphobia makes people fear and avoid situations where they feel embarrassed, helpless, or threatened. Their fear of a situation is out of proportion to its true level of risk. However, fearing public spaces during our Covid-19 era is a normal response to such a threatening event. Even returning to the workplace.

The American Psychological Association (APA) indicates Americans are experiencing a nationwide mental health crisis that could have repercussions for years to come. The APA research reveals an increase in mental health issues like stress and anxiety, but researchers have not yet made a clear correlation with these anxiety disorders because of the inherent dangerous risk and response associated with the Covid-19 virus.

Nevertheless, employers are facing return to work questions or pushback from employees currently working from home due to misinformation or even fake information. Employers also face potential liability risk while trying to adapt new and unprecedented workplace policy. How can EAP professionals help?

Will Alexander will discuss the current trends in the treatment of mental health disorders like agoraphobia during Covid-19. We will learn how to identify the symptoms of these disorders and the impact of Covid-19. We will learn how to differentiate true physical symptoms verses how the mind may be causing a physical response. We will also learn the long-term health risk associated with these disorders if left unchecked.
