Millennials, Generation Z, and their Parents: Career and Education Decision-Making Challenges for the Whole Family

By understanding better the root causes of family career and education decision-making challenges, we can better support employees and their families as they consider these critical decisions. Whether working parents are preparing their teens for adulthood or supporting young adult children who are financially or emotionally dependent on them, the stress and anxiety of trying to be an expert in an area that even they are challenged to stay on top of, can be frustrating and overwhelming.

Moreover, societal pressure reinforces some ideas that seem good on the surface, but ultimately lead to disappointment and resentment as young people enter the workforce. This talk will highlight some of these root causes of workforce dissatisfaction and offer solutions and alternatives that families and employers can support for their own mutual benefit.

Learning Objectives:

1.     You will discover how education and workforce trends have impacted family educational and career decision-making since the economic downturn of 2008.

2.     You will have a better understanding of  the root causes of the “overeducated and underprepared” Millennial workforce.

3.     You discover how Generation Z (today’s teens and college students) might be different.

4.     We will discuss the challenges that job seekers face in successfully navigating job searches, regardless of generation.

5.     You will learn what resources are available to families making crucial career and education decisions for themselves and their children.
